#03 – Books and cake in the rain
The rain fell on his head with a plop as the ship came in. It was not a good day for him, and any day would be the same. No one would like a man who looked like him, so no one was kind to him.
There was a pile of mess near the wall. They made the man stop to see if he could find good things in there. A big box fell with a thump. The man looked in it. There were books and playthings.
He picked up a funny pink book. It was about a fox who tricks a cat into a big box to take her dish of cake. Not a book a man would like, but he sat down and looked at it.
Little Sally was with her mother, who was there to get a good fish. She saw the man who was near with a pink book and went up to him.
“You look funny with a pink book.”
“I know. But it is a funny book.”
“Yes. Want it?”
Little Sally had a think. “Give you my cake for it?”
The man gave her the book and had the cake. The cake was good with the rain.
